In my thesis from 2017, I explored the idea of character-based architecture and the Palace as a character through the process of rewriting the script of Alain Resnais' Last Year in Marienbad.
I looked into the hidden, intertextual narratives that emerge in the process of translation of the written into the cinematic space. I argued how the features and the motivations of the Palace-character led to the development of the Palatial-body.
Through a series of methodological scene-analysis, the character of the Palace was identified. The palace revealed itself as a cross-dressing seducer, a manipulator, conspirator and ultimately - a sadist.
